The City of Jackson is conducting a national search for our next Police Chief, and your voice matters. Choosing the right leader for the Jackson Police Department is a critical step in building safer neighborhoods and stronger community trust. We invite all residents to share their perspectives by completing the Police Chief Community Survey. Community policing initiatives

Our community policing initiatives focus on building strong relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. These initiatives aim to improve public safety, reduce crime, and increase trust between police officers and residents.

Community Engagement Officers and Events

  • Community Engagement Officers tasked with Building partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and stakeholders.

  • Events like “Coffee with a Cop” and town hall meetings foster open dialogue.

  • Faith and Blue events to foster communication and interaction with the faith-based community

  • Helps humanize law enforcement and improve relationships.

School Resource Officers (SROs)

  • Officers are assigned to schools to ensure safety and mentor students.

  • Focus on building positive relationships with young people.

Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET)
Formed in early 2024, the Jackson Police Department’s Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) leads citywide efforts to identify, investigate, and clean up illegal dump sites across Jackson. NET officers patrol known hotspots, collect debris, gather evidence, and help enforce anti-dumping ordinances in collaboration with code enforcement and Solid Waste services. Their work supports cleaner neighborhoods, stronger public health, and greater accountability in our city.

Who Do I Call? Public Safety FAQ

What number do I call in an emergency?


Always dial 911 for emergencies such as crimes in progress, medical emergencies, or fires. Dispatch will route the call to the right agency.

When should I contact Jackson Police Department (JPD)?


Call JPD for incidents that occur anywhere inside the city limits of Jackson but outside the Capitol Complex District, such as neighborhood safety issues, traffic collisions, or non-emergency reports.

When should I contact Capitol Police?


Capitol Police handles calls inside the Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID) including the State Capitol, downtown government buildings, and surrounding designated areas. Residents and businesses inside this district may be served directly by Capitol Police.

When should I contact the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department?


The Sheriff’s Department provides law enforcement throughout Hinds County, operates the county jail, and handles court services. Call them for issues outside the city limits, or when you need information on jail, warrants, or county-wide matters.
